If you're planning to travel during the holiday season, now's the time to prepare! The excitement is building, and millions will hit the skies, roads, and rails to celebrate these special days with loved ones.

Let's get flying!

AAA has predicted that holiday travel will break records this year, with 122.4 million Americans expected to travel. That's a 2.2% increase from last year! If you're one of them, here's what you need to know.

The busy travel window runs from December 20th to January 1st, 2026. As Debbie Haas from AAA notes, this eagerness to travel is pushing numbers to new highs. Her top advice? Plan ahead. Book your tickets early, allow extra travel time, and consider buying travel insurance for peace of mind.

While the number of travelers is up by 2.7 million compared to last year, domestic flights are 7% pricier at an average of $890, though international flights have dropped 14% to around $1,400. A whopping 109.5 million people will take road trips, making up 89% of holiday travelers. Thankfully, gas prices are lower, averaging below $3 per gallon for the first time in four years, so make sure your car is in top shape before your journey.

Air travel is also set to hit new heights, with a record 8.03 million people flying, surpassing 8 million for the first time. High travel demand and winter weather mean booking travel insurance is a smart move.

For those flying, stay informed of your flight status, arrive early at the airport to avoid delays, and pack essentials like chargers and a change of clothes in your carry-on. Also, understand your rights regarding rebooking and compensation.

Orlando is a hot spot this season, so it’s wise to pack your patience. With Thanksgiving being the busiest in 15 years, we expect the holiday season to be similar.
