If you’ve ever been to Disney World in the summer, then you know the weather is only two things: hot and rainy. After the major heatwave last week, Mother Nature is yet again headed for the House of Mouse with a potential tropical storm or depression.

A new storm system started forming off the coast of central Florida on Wednesday. According to the National Hurricane Center tracking it, there’s a much higher chance that the storm could become the season’s next tropical storm or depression!
In its 2 PM tropical outlook on Friday, July 17th, the National Hurricane Center said that a large area of showers and thunderstorms has congregated over the eastern Gulf associated with an upper-level low and a surface trough. The NHC now gives the system a 10% chance to develop into a tropical storm or depression in the next two days and a 30% chance in the next week.

“Some gradual development of this system is possible while it meanders northward, bringing heavy rain to portions of the Florida west coast during the next several days,” forecasters said.
Meteorologist Jared Silverman of WAFB shared a video of the projected radar, and the storm is expected to bring heavy rain to Orlando on both Saturday and Sunday.
“Regardless, the development of the low will lead to a tightening pressure gradient across east Central Florida, with southerly winds picking up to 10 to 15 mph areawide,” forecasters said. “Increasing moisture through the weekend and into early next week as a result of the southerly flow and the developing low will lead to scattered to numerous shower and storm chances across the area, primarily during the afternoon hours each day.”

TROPICS UPDATE: GRAF model shows the possible timing and movement of the Gulf low over the weekend. It could be a significant rain-maker for the Florida Gulf coast, as the models show very slow drifting towards the east.
