We have shocking snack news — that may point to even bigger changes coming to Disney World.
That’s some thick bacon!
One of our favorite snacks at Magic Kingdom has MOVED to a new location. In the past, Westward Ho was where you’d want to stop to get a big ol’ skewer of candied bacon, but that snack has officially been moved over to Golden Oak Outpost — and we think we might know why.
For a while now, rumors have been swirling that Westward Ho and Big Al’s would be closing as part of the upcoming Piston Peak expansion at Magic Kingdom. While Disney hasn’t announced anything officially, both locations have been removed from the park map on the My Disney Experience app. In addition, a Cast Member at Big Al’s told us that while they weren’t sure of a closure date yet, they do know that it will happen at some point in the future.
Westward Ho
A Cast Member at Westward Ho confirmed much of the same — while there’s no date set officially, they can feel that the countdown has begun. Recently, they heard that the list of locations for trainers was updated, and Westward Ho was no longer on the list. The Cast Member we spoke to did tell us that she heard a rumor they could be moved to Liberty Square, but there’s no confirmation of that at this time.

Big Al’s
So, when we saw that the Golden Oak Outpost menu had been updated to feature the candied bacon skewer, it made plenty of sense to us.
Golden Oak Outpost
We’ll be sad to see these spots go, that’s for sure, but we hope similar Piston Peak-themed spots will take their place when the land opens. We’d hate to be down a merchandise location AND a dining spot for good. It also has us a little concerned about other spots in the land — we hope they won’t close for good, but it’s possible they may need to close periodically to be rethemed to Piston Peak, or just repainted to fit in more with the new land.

While Frontierland isn’t being replaced by Piston Peak, it will shrink a little bit to make way for the changes.
Piston Peak is a new Cars-themed land coming to Magic Kingdom that will include two new attractions — a rally race-themed ride, as well as a family-friendly ride for smaller racers. The area is themed around National Parks, which will hopefully help it blend in with the nearby Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (also under a lengthy refurbishment) and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

We’ll be on the lookout for even more snack changes in Magic Kingdom and beyond. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest news and more.
