We’ll admit that we spend a lot of time traveling to Disney Parks, but we also encourage you to get out there and see other parts of the world, too, if you’re able. However, if you’re making plans for international travel, you often need to be aware of locations that could be deemed dangerous.

Recently, the U.S. State Department has issued a Level 2 travel advisory for Petra, aka “Rose City,” which was most famously seen in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Petra (known as “Rose City” because of the pink color of the cliffs it’s carved out of) is in the country of Jordan. A level 2 advisory has been issued for Jordan, which means that if you’re visiting the film location you should exercise increased caution. The advisory was issue due to a risk of terrorism.

According to the advisory, terrorists may attack without warning at transportation hubs, markets and shopping malls, local government buildings, and tourist locations, including Petra. According to the U.S. Department of State, “Jordan is relatively stable but due to high tensions in the region, the security environment remains complex and can change quickly.”

Petra, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an ancient city that was carved from sandstone over 2,000 years ago and once served as the center of an Arab Kingdom. This, along with the fame it garnered from being featured in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, makes it a heavily sought-after tourist spot. However, if you do have plans to travel there, be sure to take the U.S. State Department’s advisory seriously.
