Disney World is no stranger to data collection, employing tactics like the My Disney Experience app and MagicBands to track guest activity and improve visitor experiences. However, questions swirl around just how invasive these methods are. While fingerprint scans are currently the main biometric tool used, facial recognition hasn’t been implemented yet.
Back in 2021, Magic Kingdom did experiment with facial recognition technology as part of a push for contactless entry, converting facial images into unique numbers linked to tickets. Although this tech has been shelved for now, Disneyland has adopted a similar system where your picture is linked to your ticket for park entry.
Universal Orlando is also embracing facial scanning, signaling a possible future for all major theme parks. Given the advances in technology and the larger trend, there's a good chance Disney World might revisit facial recognition.
While this could shore up security and streamline park access, it inevitably raises privacy concerns. Disney fans, how do you feel about the prospect of Disney World adopting facial recognition technology? Share your thoughts, and stay tuned with us for any updates in the future!
