There are few things more exciting than the start of a Disney World vacation. The anticipation, the planning, and the travel all culminate with arrival at one of Disney’s hotels and enjoying all the perks that go along with them.

However, there are a few things any guest checking in needs to keep in mind, especially when it comes to one of Disney’s newest – and most popular – resort perks.

Planning guide for the ultimate Disney vacation

In January 2025, Disney introduced a new water park perk for hotel guests, which gave each member of their party admission to one of Walt Disney World’s water parks — Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon — on their check-in day.

Blizzard Beach

The perk proved popular, especially during the summer months, when Disney had BOTH water parks open simultaneously for the first time in years.

Typhoon Lagoon

While the first iteration of the offer ended with the dawning of 2026, it will be returning as part of the Cool Kids Summer promotion from May 26th to September 8th.

So, it’s a slam dunk given that you should take advantage of the free water park ticket on your check-in day, right? Well… maybe. The water park is undeniably beneficial for some Disney World guests, but whether you’re among them is another matter. There are some things you need to consider, starting with what time you are scheduled to arrive at your hotel. Will it allow the needed turnaround time to get ready and head to the water park with enough time to enjoy it? The parks are usually open until 6:00 PM, at the latest 7:00 PM during peak times. So, if you’re flying, for example, a flight arriving at MCO any later than 11:00 AM may be too late.

Beyond timing, you may also want to take your travel day into account. A flight – or long drive, for that matter – that allows you to arrive early enough to get to your hotel and, in turn, to one of the water parks on time, it’s likely to have been a very early and very tiring day. It may be more relaxing to grab a bite and spend time at the hotel pool after travel day.

A few further tips for your check-in day:

  • Look up dining and transportation options before arrival to have an idea of your plans.
  • Be prepared for your room to potentially not be ready if you arrive too early.
