Planning a Disney World trip in 2026 looks very different from what it did just a few years ago. Between ongoing construction, rising costs, and an increasingly tech-driven park experience, planning your Disney trip can become complicated.

As someone with several Disney World trips already on the calendar for next year, I’ve been rethinking which extras actually improve my time in the parks and which ones don’t. Lightning Lane is often treated as a must-buy, but for many 2026 vacations, that assumption deserves a second look. The more I map out my upcoming trips, the clearer it becomes that skipping Lightning Lane can actually be beneficial. That doesn’t mean it has no value at all, but it does mean it isn’t always the best fit. Here are the reasons why I’m choosing to skip purchasing Lightning Lane for my Disney World trips in 2026 and why you might as well.
If you’re considering the Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, it’s worth pausing before buying. With fewer Lightning Lane attractions than other parks and DinoLand closed, the overall lineup is smaller than in past years. Many of the park’s headliners, like Kilimanjaro Safaris and Expedition Everest, can be best tackled at rope drop, making paid line-skipping unnecessary. In fact, it’s very realistic to experience nearly everything Animal Kingdom has to offer in a single day without Multi Pass.
