I had the strangest restaurant experience at Disney World in 2024.
I was assigned to try out Big River Grille on the BoardWalk for a dining review. It wasn't a well-known spot, so I was excited to check it out. Bizarrely, the place closed permanently just a week after my visit! I was sitting there, tasting their surprisingly mediocre menu, and the next thing I knew, the restaurant was completely shut with no warning.
It's quite unusual because new establishments typically replace closed ones quickly at Disney World. But months later, it remains empty, with no signage or construction in sight. Other nearby locations like the ESPN Club and Ample Hills Creamery quickly turned into The Cake Bake Shop and BoardWalk Ice Cream. So why is this prime real estate just sitting empty?
Interestingly, other spots nearby like Jellyrolls and the Funnel Cake stand have closed too, leaving the BoardWalk looking pretty abandoned. Knowing Disney’s history of reinventing spaces, I can’t help but wonder if they have big plans to transform this area soon, given its prime location near EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.
