There are several reasons to book a Disney World hotel, but there’s one you might want to avoid this year.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

From larger-than-life theming to next-level dining and exclusive perks like Early Theme Park Entry, Disney’s resort hotels are often just as magical as the parks themselves. But here’s the thing, even Disney hotels aren’t immune to refurbishments, and if you’re planning a trip soon, there’s one popular resort you may want to think twice about booking.

We’re talking about Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Yes, we know that the savanna views are incredible, the dining options are some of the best on property, and the theming is so unique, but there’s one thing that’s holding us back from booking a stay here — construction.

Animal Kingdom Lodge

Refurbishment work began at Animal Kingdom Lodge in October 2025, and it’s going to last a while. From October 2025 through May 2026, guest rooms at Kidani Village will undergo refurbishment. Then, from May 2026 through January 2027, construction will shift to Jambo House.

During these timeframes, Disney has indicated that guests may see or hear construction work in the area. While most amenities are expected to remain available throughout the refurbishment, that doesn’t necessarily mean your stay will be free of disruptions. Construction at a resort hotel can mean daytime noise, construction walls in hallways or common areas, and more.

This resort is stunning

Animal Kingdom Lodge isn’t just any Disney hotel. It’s one of the most immersive stays on property, complete with savannas filled with giraffes, zebras, and other wildlife roaming just outside your balcony. Many guests book specifically for that serene, “escape-from-the-parks” feeling, and construction can take away from that feeling.

The Savanna at Animal Kingdom Lodge

Animal Kingdom Lodge isn’t alone. Several other Disney World hotels are also seeing refurbishments and updates this year. Disney regularly rotates room renovations across resorts to keep them fresh, which is great long-term, but it does mean that 2026 is shaping up to be a big construction year at Disney World. If avoiding construction is high on your priority list, it’s worth double-checking your resort choice before booking.

Now, let’s be clear. This doesn’t mean no one should stay there during this year. Animal Kingdom Lodge could still be a fantastic choice if:

  • You’re booking a Savanna View room and are willing to request a location away from active construction.
  • You plan to spend a lot of time at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and want to be as close as possible.
  • You’re going for the dining. Because honestly? The restaurants here are incredible. Between signature dining and some of the most unique flavors at Disney World, many guests book this resort just for the food scene alone.

If your focus is on the animals, the restaurants, and the overall ambiance, and you’re okay with potential daytime construction noise, you may still have an amazing stay.
