Southwest Airlines has made a LOT of headlines recently, thanks to all the changes the airline has made. Most notably, the airline no longer offers free checked bags for everyone, and it’s completely changed its seating and boarding policies.

Well, a NEW change is coming to Southwest Airlines, but this one is something we think most Southwest passengers will like. Southwest Airlines is getting faster Wi-Fi.
That’s right. You’ll soon be able to enjoy fast Wi-Fi i on Southwest flights, thanks to Southwest’s new partnership with Starlink. Starlink will upgrade Southwest Airlines’ Wi-Fi allowing passengers to stream, share, and scroll at new lightning-fast speeds. Southwest also hopes to integrate it quickly, with the first Starlink-equipped aircraft going into service as early as this summer. By the end of 2026, Southwest plans to have Starlink on more than 300 planes.

Starlink works by using more than 9,000 satelittes that orbit close to Earth. The technology supports in-flight entertainment, so you’ll be able to stream your favorite movies on Disney+, play video games, message friends and family back home, and more. If you need to get some work done, you’ll be able to download and upload at faster speeds. Southwest is the largest U.S. airline to offer free Wi-Fi to its Rapid Rewards members.

“Free WiFi has been a huge hit with our Rapid Rewards Members, and we know our Customers expect seamless connectivity across all their devices when they travel,” said Tony Roach, Executive Vice President, Chief Customer & Brand Officer at Southwest Airlines. “Starlink delivers that at-home experience in the air, giving Customers the ability to stream their favorite shows from any platform, watch live sports, download music, play games, work, and connect with loved ones from takeoff to landing.”
Southwest is also making more improvements to its planes by offering more seating choices, updating the cabin design with new seats, installing in-seat power for every seat, installing larger overhead bins, installing seatbacks with a personal electronic device holder, launching an extra legroom experience with enhanced snacks, and more.
