As the U.S. government shutdown drags on, it’s exerting growing pressure on the country’s aviation system, with parts of the airspace possibly shutting down soon.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warns that starting next week, we should prepare for widespread flight delays and cancellations, along with potential airspace closures due to a lack of air traffic controllers.

Duffy specified that 40 "high-volume" areas will face a 10% cut in air traffic to handle controller shortages, affecting the 13,000 currently working without pay.

Though the FAA hasn't officially announced which airports will face capacity cuts, CBS News released a preliminary list including major airports like Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, LAX, and JFK among others.

This aviation dilemma is the latest front in the ongoing government shutdown, now approaching nearly 40 days, fueled by debates over healthcare funding and marked by disputes among the Trump Administration, Republicans, and Democrats on who’s responsible for the deadlock.

With these disruptions looming, it's clear the shutdown is hitting our aviation sector hard. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this – how do you think this will impact your travel plans? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
