Stardust Racers is set to reopen on October 4th, 2025, after a tragic incident led to the death of a guest, Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, on September 17th. Revised safety protocols now require wheelchair users to be able to walk independently, as Team Members will no longer assist in boarding.
Zavala, a wheelchair user, died from multiple blunt impact injuries, ruled as an accident by the medical examiner. His family is contesting statements they feel wrongly suggest his disability was a factor.
Universal conducted a full review with relevant authorities and confirmed the ride operated correctly during the incident. Modifications in operational procedures are now in place, affecting other attractions like Dragon Racers Rally and Monsters Unchained, requiring all guests to walk independently onto the rides.
Stardust Racers is known for its dual-launch racing experience, reaching speeds of 62 mph and 133-foot heights along 5,000 feet of track.
Kevin’s family has started a GoFundMe for support in this difficult time. What are your thoughts on the changes implemented? Would they impact your experience at Epic Universe? Let us know!
