We might be distracted by the Tropical Americas in Animal Kingdom and Monstropolis in Hollywood Studios, but you can’t forget about the Cars area coming to Magic Kingdom!

Piston Peak is moving right along, and while Disney hasn’t announced any opening dates or timelines, we can see a lot of dirt being moved for the land that is taking over Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America (they closed a while ago, but they still live in our hearts). Check out the newest update for Piston Peak!
This area is close to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, so we got a great view close to the attraction. You can see that construction is officially vertical, which is a huge achievement for any new construction project.

Piston Peak
Can you believe there used to be so much water in the area? The entire Rivers of America were drained, but in concept art that Disney has shared, there were more water elements added. We’re crossing our fingers that water will be back in Frontierland!

Going vertical
While nothing in the area looks particularly like anything, we know Disney is working on overall land design, which is the first step before anything with Lightning McQueen goes up.

Dirt and more dirt
There will be two attractions in Piston Peak. One will be an off-roading rally race, and when Disney shared some of the technology for the ride, they said they’re trying to make it as accurate to an off-roading feeling as possible. The Imagineering team even took to the dirt to test out different movements and feelings for themselves.

There will also be a more family-friendly ride, but Disney hasn’t released any details on what this could be. All we know is that we’re going to be excited and ride them all. No more going to the West Coast for Cars Land; we have it all right here in Orlando!

With D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event around the corner, we’re expecting some news or updates about Piston Peak. This is typically where Disney drops some of their biggest announcements, so we’re hoping for an opening year, ride names, more concept art, and anything else that can help us get a better picture of the land.
