Disneyland Resort, just like Disney World, is full of construction right now, and practically every time we step into the park, we notice something new that’s happening or an update on a project underway.
Disney California Adventure
If you’ve stepped into Disney California Adventure for the past few years, you may have noticed that the old Tower of Terror FastPass kiosk still exists, though it is not used for much. The FastPass theming was done away with many years ago, and Tower of Terror was changed to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! in 2017. The stand has remained unused for years. However, that’s all changing now!
For years, if you wanted to skip the lines in Disney World and Disneyland, you’d head to physical FastPass stations around the park and grab a return time for whatever attraction you wanted (as long as it was still available), and it was totally FREE! You’d use that physical FastPass as your ticket to skip the line at the time indicated on your pass, and while it was prominently available for everyone, many people didn’t know about the option.

However, in 2013, FastPass became FastPass+, and by 2014, it was entirely digital, meaning there was no more need for these physical FastPass stands. When the parks reopened following the COVID-19 Pandemic, no one could skip the lines at all (which wasn’t too bad, since capacity was pretty limited). In August 2021, it was announced that FastPass+ would not be coming back and would instead be replaced with Disney Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selections. Now, that’s evolved into the Lightning Lane system we know today.

Back in January, this structure went behind walls, but it wasn’t clear what exactly was happening. That’s all changing right now, though, because a new permit filed by Disney confirms that this stand will be demolished to make way for a new outdoor eating area.
New permit!
The permit specifically says, “Change of Use: Convert existing detached fast-pass ticket shade structure into outdoor eating area with new joists. With electrical.” Yes, this means that there will be MORE seating in this area, and because of the electrical note, we’re hoping that, in addition to lights, this spot may also have some outlets to charge our phones!
Permit
We’re hoping this construction will be complete within a few months at the most, because hey, while we’re looking forward to all the new additions, we’re also already a little tired of all the walls!
