Planning a Disney World trip is already a challenge, and finding out about ride closures can complicate things further.

With Halloween festivities in full swing and special events ongoing, October is buzzing in the parks. Unfortunately, some favorite attractions are shut down for refurbishment. While some closures are brief, others are part of long-term projects, not reopening until 2026. Here's a quick overview of the four rides you should know about, and their available alternatives.

**Kali River Rapids**

Those looking to cool off at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will need to rethink their plan, as Kali River Rapids will close for its routine annual maintenance earlier than usual this year, beginning October 6, 2025, and reopening just in time for the December holiday buzz. If getting wet was on your agenda, consider the calmer, indoor Na’vi River Journey with its mesmerizing bioluminescent scenery or try the thrilling Expedition Everest.

**Big Thunder Mountain Railroad**

At Magic Kingdom, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has been unavailable since January 6, 2025, and isn't expected to return until 2026 due to major refurbishments. During its absence, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train offers a family-friendly ride, while Space Mountain or TRON Lightcycle / Run deliver more intense thrills.

**Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin**

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been temporarily suspended since August 4, 2025, for enhancements. Set to return in 2026 with interactive upgrades, including a new character named Buddy, it's expected to captivate guests more than ever before. Meanwhile, Toy Story Mania at Hollywood Studios provides a similar interactive experience, and Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor offers light-hearted fun at Magic Kingdom.

**Spaceship Earth**

EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth paused operations on August 25, 2025, for a standard refurbishment and is slated to resume before year-end. In the interim, the charming and educational Living with the Land is a perfect substitute for those seeking classic storytelling.

**Impact on Your Visit**

Though four closures might seem significant, Disney World is still brimming with activities. Be aware that these closures may influence wait times for other rides. Stay flexible in your planning and keep track of what’s accessible during your visit. There’s endless magic to discover—sometimes just on a different ride than you initially planned.

I’m curious, which of these closures would most impact your trip? Share your thoughts in the comments!
