It's currently closed!

January is a popular month due to lighter crowds and cooler weather, but it’s also prime time for refurbishments. Keep in mind that two major Magic Kingdom attractions will be unavailable, along with a temporary shutdown of a key transportation service. Here's the scoop on what will be closed, why it matters, and how you can adjust your plans accordingly.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom is undergoing a major refurbishment and will be closed throughout January 2026.

The ride has been closed since January 2025 and is expected to reopen in 2026 with new features. This significant project coincides with substantial work in Frontierland, potentially transforming the area. If this attraction is a highlight for you, keep this in mind when planning your itinerary.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will also be closed for enhancements, introducing a new character named Buddy and upgrading ride vehicles with new technology.

These renovations promise a modern feel for the attraction but will leave it unavailable during your visit.

Disney Skyliner

The Disney Skyliner will have a scheduled closure from January 25 to January 31, 2026, affecting transport between EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and select resorts. Bus transportation will be available, but expect longer travel times.

Even with these closures, January 2026 might still be appealing due to the reduced crowds. How do you feel about these changes? Are the promised upgrades and lighter crowds worth the wait, or do these closures sway your decision? Share your thoughts below!
