The list of construction projects at Disney World just got even bigger!
Typhoon Lagoon
Between new lands coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Magic Kingdom, it seems like Disney is filing permits every other week. Well, a new permit has just been filed for another construction project, only this one is for one of Disney’s water parks!
Disney has filed a new permit with the South Florida Water Management District for a new project at Typhoon Lagoon! On the permit, you can see that it is titled Typhoon Lagoon Backstage Parking Lot.

On the permit, the project’s description claims that this is “a new roadway leading to a fenced-in back-stage gravel parking lot at Typhoon Lagoon within Walt Disney World Resort.” It’s also noted that the “proposed stormwater management system consists of two dry retention ponds and four main conveyance swales that contain ditch blocks.”

On the permits image, you’ll see that the construction site is behind the water park in the backstage area. You can see it sits right behind Crush ‘n’ Gusher.

The new parking lot plan tells us that the popular water park may be seeing even more guests. It’s definitely gotten busier at Typhoon Lagoon over the summer, and adding a new parking lot would give a lot more room to guests.

Since this is a backstage parking lot, it will most likely be parking for Cast Members who work at Typhoon Lagoon. That means that we could be seeing the current Cast Parking switched to a parking lot for guests coming to the water park.

Everyone is at Typhoon Lagoon!
There is no better time for this permit to be filed, because the water park is closing for the cooler season on September 9th. Both water parks were open for the summer, but Typhoon Lagoon will be getting its annual temporary closure soon. Blizzard Beach will still be open after Typhoon Lagoon closes.

We’re not sure how long the parking lot construction will take, but we also don’t know when Typhoon Lagoon will open again. Maybe by the time Typhoon is open again, the parking lot will open with it. We’re expecting some news on the construction and a confirmed opening date for the water park once it closes.
