When it comes to rides, a case can be made that Hollywood Studios might currently be the most popular park at Walt Disney World, thanks to a mixture of classic E-Tickets, modern marvels, and IP-based extravaganzas, with more on the way in the coming years.

However, not every ride at the park is created equal, and if you find yourself strapped for time at Hollywood Studios, there are certain rides you can skip and others you can ride instead.
Okay, this one might cause a great disturbance in the Force, but hear us out. Rise of the Resistance is a modern masterpiece of Imagineering, a multiple-part experience featuring live actors, animtronics, several ride systems, and trackless vehicles. However, thanks to all those elements, the ride sees long wait times when operational and significant downtime, especially compared to other major attractions.

If you find yourself at Hollywood Studios with limited time or on a day when Rise of the Resistance is struggling to stay afloat, you can instead venture over and experience Star Tours: The Adventure Continues. This revamped version of the classic attraction features a cavalcade of classic Star Wars characters in a randomized experience. Plus, since the simulator attraction often has an average wait of around 1/10th as long as Rise of the Resistance on a typical day.

When Toy Story Mania! opened at Hollywood Studios back in 2008, the ride was a technological marvel. Its mix of 3D graphics and interactive canon games featuring Toy Story characters made it an immediate hit, and the promise of interchangeable games that could be swapped out for new ones seemed to signify that it would feel “new” for years to come. However, nearly two decades later, things are a bit different. The ride can feel a bit tired, especially since no new games have been swapped in since Toy Story 3’s release in 2010.
Toy Story Mania!
If you skip Toy Story Mania!, you can dedicate that queue time to waiting for Micky & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. While fans of the classic Great Movie Ride may still lament its replacement, this trackless dark ride based on the modern Mickey shorts has remained a modern favorite since it opened back in 2020.

Okay, we promise we’re not here to pick on Toy Story Land, but let’s talk about Slinky Dog Dash. This family coaster definitely has more of a kick to it than a “kiddie” coaster does — and it’s definitely fun — but serious thrillseekers likely will find its usual hour+ wait a bit too long for the payoff.

Instead, they should head down Sunset Boulevard, where, beginning May 26th, there will be a much more thrilling coaster that still features beloved characters. Namely, the Muppet Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster. This refurbished take on the classic features will feature a brand new Muppet pre-show, new songs “recorded by” the Electric Mayhem, and a new colorful exterior, all while keeping the 60 MPH launch and inversions that have made the coaster a favorite of thrillseekers since it originally opened back in 1999.

Next time you find yourself needing to make some hard choices at Hollywood Studios, keep in mind which rides you may want to skip and which you’ll want to hop on instead. Stay tuned to Magical Guides for more Disney World tips.
