We’ve got some incredibly sad news to share coming from the TV and film community.

If you’re someone who absolutely loved The Muppet Movie, someone very important on the creative team has passed on. It’s been reported that Richard L. O’Connor, producer of The Muppet Movie and many others, has now passed away at the age of 96.
Variety has reported the news, stating that O’Connor’s death was reported by his family. He was the executive in charge of films like The Muppet Movie, On Golden Pond, and Hickey & Boggs. He was 96 years old and passed on July 22nd in Palm Desert, California.

Other credits of his included Across 110th Street, Raise the Titanic, Borderline, Hard Country, and Barbarosa, along with many TV movies like Sanctuary of Fear, Friendly Fire, and an adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front. He also won an Emmy in 1990 for his work on A Mother’s Courage: The Mary Thomas Story.

His last project was in 2001. That was Face Value, where he was credited as a co-executive producer. After he retired, he lived out the rest of his years near San Francisco’s Botanical Gardens. He and his twin brother Don were born on January 7th, 1930, and he got his start in the CBS Television City mailroom after serving with his brother in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
