When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options to choose from. But when we’re craving something tropical, we almost always hop on the monorail from Magic Kingdom and say aloha to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort!
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
We recently stopped by Barefoot Pool Bar at Disney’s Polynesian Resort to see if one of our favorite pool bars is still as good as we remember, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it still worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Let’s find out!
Guests at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort spending some time at the Lava Pool can also relax at the Barefoot Pool Bar. But this tiki hut-inspired outpost isn’t just for resort guests, since anyone can order from the pool bar. We love hopping on the monorail when we’re at Magic Kingdom to grab The Voyager, a drink we created that moved from the secret menu to the permanent menu a few years ago!

As the name suggests, it is right by the pool, and while there is limited seating around the actual bar, you can find tables and chairs around the area. We think these are best enjoyed poolside!

But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?!
The menu offers dozens of tropical drinks and cocktails fit for an island vacation. You can also grab a quick bite to eat with Polynesian-inspired island bites or American staples like burgers and sandwiches.

And now, onto the main event — the food!
To drink, we picked up the Frozen Margarita with DOLE Whip Lime for $17.50. This is DOLE Whip Lime blended with Corazón Blanco Tequila and Chili-Lime Seasoning.

This drink was so smooth. The DOLE Whip overpowers the tequila, so you can barely taste it. The tajin and salt rim cut through the sour lime to balance everything out. If you love lime and margaritas but want something without the alcohol taste, then this is the drink for you!

Next up was The Voyager for $16.50. It’s DOLE Whip Pineapple blended with Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Bols Blue Curaçao Liqueur, Cream of Coconut, and Pineapple Juice. This is the drink we helped develop back in 2021, but the toppings are different this time around. Instead of a pineapple slice and cherry on top, it’s only a pineapple slice now, so we’re curious if it still tastes the same.

The Voyager
The Voyager is still very pineapple-forward with a slushie consistency from the DOLE Whip. The coconut flavor from the rum and cream of coconut is still prominent, making it super tropical and fruity. You also don’t taste much of the alcohol bite, so this is still the same exact drink that we helped make; it just looks a bit different!

The Voyager
First up, we grabbed the Spicy Honey Pork Wings for $15. These are pork wings tossed in Sriracha honey with spicy ranch sauce.

The pork is tender and fell right off the bone. These wings are packed with flavor, but they weren’t very spicy. It’s glazed with a very mild hot honey, and the orange spicy ranch sauce packs a real punch. This was good, we just wish there was more spicy ranch on top!

Next up was the Shrimp Flatbread for $14.29. This is a flatbread topped with shrimp, with Loco Moco Gravy, cheese, and bacon pieces.

The flatbread crust itself is on the bland side, and the texture was rather tough. The Loco Moco Gravy sauce was very creamy and reminded us of Alfredo sauce combined with the shrimp. The bacon bits added a nice crunch and saltiness that kept things interesting.

Then, for our entrée, we got the Crispy Chicken Sandwich for $13.19. It’s a fried chicken sandwich with a broccoli and carrot slaw sauce served with a side of fries.

The chicken on this was clearly frozen, since it was more chewy than tender and didn’t taste very fresh. The coleslaw sauce was a hit, though. It’s very garlicky with the creaminess of mayo or ranch, then combined with a fine broccoli-and-carrot slaw. If this were made fresh, it would be a hit!

Swim-up to the Barefoot Pool Bar if…
Just keep swimming somewhere else if…
Everything we ordered was so fresh and different compared to the typical pool bar foods. Like the rest of the resort, everything had a fun Polynesian flair. Next time you’re at the Polynesian Resort and are looking for a quick drink, we totally recommend checking this pool bar out!

Nosh or Not
Swim-up to the Barefoot Pool Bar if…
- You’re staying at (or near) the Polynesian Village Resort.
- You want some quick and casual options with a bit of flair. Most of these foods and drinks are unique to the pool bars here, so it’s a chance to try something unique to the location.
- You love a good tropical drink. The bartenders here are SO much fun and so great at what they do. The drinks are top-notch and not all your average “Disney bar menu” drinks (though they have those too!).
- You love the energy of dining outside by a pool.
Just keep swimming somewhere else if…
- You’re not in the vicinity of the Polynesian. It’s tasty, but no need to make a special trip for these options.
- You’re looking to escape the heat and find some air conditioning, nearby Capt. Cook’s is more what you’re after.
- You want a nice sit-down meal. This is a classic pool bar done pretty well, but you’ll still find lots of people in casual wear and have speedy quick service.
Overall
