There are two things you can almost always count on during a Disney World trip. You’re going to walk an absurd number of steps, and at some point, Florida weather is going to Florida weather all over your plans. Sunshine, humidity, sudden downpours that feel personal. You know the drill.

Silicone Waterproof Shoe Covers

So when I first saw silicone waterproof shoe covers pop up as a supposed Disney essential, I laughed (out loud). They looked like something you’d find in the back corner of an online marketplace at 2 AM while doom scrolling. There was absolutely no way these were going to work in the parks. I was fully prepared to try them and report back so you wouldn’t waste your money. And yet, here we are.

These Silicone Waterproof Shoe Covers Actually Work

As we said, we’re talking about these Silicone Waterproof Shoe Covers.

These things are basically stretchy silicone shells that slide over your sneakers and zip up at the back. The idea is simple. Keep the rain off your shoes so you’re not sloshing around in soggy socks for the rest of the day. On paper, it makes sense. In reality, it sounded somewhat questionable.

We were ready to try these out

The first surprise was how sturdy they felt. They’re not flimsy or thin like a disposable rain poncho situation. The silicone is thick and flexible, and the bottoms have actual tread. Not “you’re about to eat pavement on Main Street” levels of slick. I walked on wet concrete, brick paths, and even those mysteriously slippery attraction exits without feeling like I was risking my dignity.

The second surprise was that they genuinely kept my shoes dry. Like, dry dry. We’re talking Florida rain that comes down sideways, and still, my sneakers were spared. I had zero faith going in, and now I’m kind of annoyed because I might actually buy my own pair.

One tip if you’re considering them. Pay attention to sizing. If you’re between sizes or on the upper end, sizing up will save you some discomfort around the zipper area. They’re snug by design, but too snug can feel a little weird after a while. Once I adjusted for that, they were way more comfortable than I expected to be stomping around in all day.

Now, let’s be real. These aren’t magic. If there’s a gap at the top where the cover meets your leg, water can still find its way in. I noticed it most when walking straight into the rain instead of with it. Water hits your legs, gravity does its thing, and eventually some moisture sneaks inside. That said, it was still a massive improvement over walking around with completely soaked shoes.

The biggest win here is what happens after the rain stops. No squishy socks. No shoes that smell like a locker room when you pack them to go home. No debating whether you can survive the rest of the day like this or need to buy overpriced replacement footwear.

A complete look!

I hate admitting it, but yes. With how often it rains in Florida, these actually made my park day easier. Especially for someone who avoids sneakers because wet shoes are a personal nightmare. If you’ve ever spent a Disney afternoon feeling damp and miserable from the ankles down, this might be the weird little product that saves you.
