It feels like we’ve been getting tons of Disney World hotel construction news over the past couple of days, and that trend is continuing with this new refurbishment news about Disney’s Contemporary Resort!
Contemporary Resort with Bay Lake Tower
Disney’s Contemporary Resort is undergoing a refurbishment that will take multiple phases! It started in September 2024 and is scheduled to go through late 2027. We now have some new news about the work that is taking place across several areas of the resort, including Bay Lake Tower and the Main Tower.

If you have a Disney World vacation coming up in the springtime, you’re going to want to be aware of a couple of things happening at the Contemporary Resort. On March 23rd, exterior maintenance work will begin on the Main Tower. It won’t be a major inconvenience, but it may affect views from various locations around the resort.

There’s a chance that the work could also require alternate paths of travel at times, but we’ll have to wait and see if Disney says anything further on that. Of course, construction activity may be visible or audible during daytime hours, so it could be bothersome to some. Disney usually does a good job of not being a disturbance, but you can only do so much when you’re working on construction.
Contemporary Resort
Since January 26th, the Bay Cove Pool, Cove Bar, water play area, and Whirlpool Spa have been temporarily closed for maintenance at the Bay Lake Tower. That will now continue on through early May 2026 — with no official date set yet. The Main Pool, water play area, and whirlpool spa at the Contemporary’s Main Tower remain open. Just something to be aware of if you’re staying at the resort this spring!

Also, exterior elevator landing repairs at Bay Lake Tower are scheduled to begin in late March, so we could see work being done there in a week or two. This maintenance is scheduled through late May 2026.
New rooms at Bay Lake Tower
Lastly, from March 30th through May 1st, 2026, the Skyway Bridge connecting Bay Lake Tower and the Main Tower will be closed Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. This is definitely something to pay attention to for guests planning to stay at the resort, and even guests visiting the resort. The bridge reopens each evening after 5 PM and is available all day on weekends. Alternate routes may be needed during weekday closures.
