A huge shake-up is happening in the world of Lucasfilm, aka the studio in charge of all things Star Wars.

With a huge movie on the way (The Mandalorian and Grogu), as well as plans for more seasons of shows like Ahsoka, it’s long been rumored that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy would soon step down. Well, that has now been confirmed by Deadline, and Kennedy’s replacements will actually be two people, Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan.

Planning guide for the ultimate Disney vacation

Kennedy will be stepping down as Lucasfilm President after almost 14 years of leading the studio. However, she will still act as producer of the next two Star Wars movies, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will release on May 22nd, 2026, and Star Wars: Starfighter, the highly anticipated Shawn Levy-directed film, which will release in 2027. After that, Kennedy has plans to produce other projects.

The new Lucasfilm presidents are already well-entrenched in Star Wars lore. Dave Filoni will be the new President and Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm, having previously served as Lucasfilm EVP and Chief Creative Officer. He’s also responsible for some of Star Wars’ most beloved stories, including the animated series and many of the Star Wars TV shows. Lynwen Brannon will be Filoni’s co-President, having previously served as the longtime President and General Manager of Lucasfilm Business. Sounds like a partnership made in a galaxy far, far away!

According to Deadline, the transition has been in the making for several years, and both Filoni and Brennan have worked closely with Kennedy since she took over as President of Lucasfilm in 2012, when Kennedy took over the role previously held by George Lucas, just ahead of Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm.

Since then, we’ve been given a lot of new Star Wars content, including the two new movies, several animated series, and more Star Wars in Disney Parks, including Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in both Disney World and Disneyland. Now, it seems like the future of Star Wars is in good hands.

We’ll keep an eye out for more big Star Wars updates, so stay tuned to Magical Guides for more.
