Right now, as the storm moves north, southeast New England is currently in the bullseye. However, the storm’s exact path is still coming into focus. CNN stated that, “computer forecast models are increasingly aligned on a low-pressure system forming off the Carolinas early Saturday and intensifying rapidly into a bomb cyclone.”

There is a chance for blizzard conditions on the southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina coasts by Saturday night, January 31st. There’s also the possibility of significant coastal flooding by Sunday morning, as the storm’s impacts will be amplified by high tides ahead of a full moon Sunday. How closely the storm hugs the coast as it moves north Sunday through the weekend will determine how much snow falls across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, if there is any snow.

CNN reported, “more than 20 million people are under winter storm watches in the Southeast, including Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, Norfolk, Virginia, and Atlanta.” Last weekend’s winter storm saw tons of snow and ice that messed up travel plans and even knocked out power to some. From reports from CNN, it looks like you should be cautious about traveling this weekend and have some sort of backup plan.
