If you're a theme park enthusiast, Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe is the buzzworthy news lately. Anticipated since 2019, some fans are even altering their Disney World plans to experience it during its debut year. With this development, there’s a clamor for Disney to introduce another park, but as someone who frequently writes about theme parks, I believe now is not the time for Disney World to add a fifth park.
Universal, now with three parks and new hotels, is still not on par with Disney financially, drawing $2.37 billion compared to Disney’s $8.078 billion in a fiscal quarter. So while Epic Universe may help Universal close the gap, Disney isn't threatened financially.
Instead of another park, Disney should focus on expanding its current parks, enhancing guest experience, and ensuring accommodations for the influx of visitors. Disney World tends to be a vacation destination where guests stay on-site, so adding more attractions and hotel space is essential before an additional park.
As Disney introduces new lands like Galaxy’s Edge and Villains Land, it's crucial for managing crowd flow and enhancing current parks’ capacity. Until Disney completes these expansions, adding a fifth park could overwhelm the existing parks with crowds and reduce guest satisfaction.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Disney should focus on their current parks, or is a fifth park necessary to stay competitive? Share your perspective!
