Disney+ has just ordered a pilot for a Holes series, and our excitement is through the roof!
Disney+ has become a treasure trove for exclusive series, especially after expanding its library through mergers with platforms like Hulu and ESPN+. Variety reports that Disney+ has ordered a pilot for a new series based on Louis Sachar’s popular 90s children’s book.
We loved the 2003 film, and can’t wait to see how this new adaptation reinvents the story for a fresh audience. It promises a fresh spin on a beloved children's book, bringing the series—and book—to a new generation.
Walden Media, who produced the successful film, is behind the pilot. Alina Mankin (Anne With An E, The Mindy Project) will write and executive produce, while Liz Phang (Yellowjackets, Locke & Key) serves as showrunner. Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg are also onboard as executive producers.
The series has a revised logline: “In this reimagining of the beloved 1998 book from Louis Sachar, a teenage girl is sent to a detention camp where the ruthless Warden forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose.” Though the protagonist is changing, the core setting seems to remain.
According to Drew Goddard, “They’ve captured Louis Sachar’s unique spirit wonderfully,” with more details kept under wraps to avoid spoilers. As of now, casting and further plot details are still under wraps.
