There are several ways to reach Disney World after planning your vacation. While many visitors fly into Orlando International Airport, some opt to drive or rent a car from the airport. However, a new scam tactic called "smishing" is targeting those driving to Disney World. Scammers use spam texts to trick people into providing personal information, often pretending you owe toll charges.
In February 2025 alone, Americans received over 19 billion spam texts impersonating everything from utility companies to toll agencies. If you receive a suspicious text about tolls, don't respond. Teresa Murray from the U.S. Public Interest Research Group warns these texts may ask for payment information or carry viruses.
To protect yourself, register your number with the National Do Not Call Registry and be wary of texts asking for personal data. Report spam texts and never click links in unsolicited messages. Have you encountered this scam? Share your experiences in the comments!
