Are you planning to visit Disney World in January?
EPCOT
January is an excellent time to go. The holiday crowds typically fade by the first week, plus the weather is usually cooler (sometimes even COLD). The EPCOT Festival of the Arts kicks off on January 17th as well. However, there’s one weekend in January when you should avoid EPCOT — and we’ll explain why.
The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend takes place January 8th through 12th, which could increase crowds at the park. However, that’s not the main reason to skip EPCOT that weekend. Here’s the catch: on January 10th and 11th, EPCOT opens at 10 AM — one hour later than usual because the marathon route goes THROUGH EPCOT, allowing runners to get through before the park opens.

This means if you go to EPCOT on those dates, you’ll miss an hour in the park — and nobody wants that! So, consider this if you'll be in Disney World that weekend. If you happen to see some runners, make sure to cheer them on!

So, what can you expect during a race weekend? Crowds will be higher in the parks, but it won’t match holiday levels. Just be patient, and consider getting a Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass if you want to avoid long lines for rides.
