The classic dilemma when planning a Disney World trip — should you go for the Disney Dining Plan?

Since its return in 2024, the Disney Dining Plan has been a hot topic among Disney-goers. While it's available as an add-on to your Disney Resort package, its value depends on how carefully you plan your meals and snacks. Personally, I've never found the Disney Dining Plan to be worth it for me, and here's why.

You can choose between two Dining Plan options on your vacation. First is the Quick Service Dining Plan, providing:

- Two quick service dining credits per person, per day
- One snack credit per person, per day
- One resort refillable mug per person

The other choice, the Disney Standard Dining Plan, includes:

- One quick service dining credit per person, per day
- One table service dining credit per person, per day
- One snack credit per person, per day
- One resort refillable mug per person

For 2025, the Quick Service Dining Plan is $59.14 per person, per night, and the Standard Dining Plan is $97.70 per person, per night.

Although those prices might seem steep, each meal credit covers an entree and a drink. To break even, opting for pricier menu items is a must, yet that's not my usual approach.

For me, alcohol is typically the most expensive drink option, but I don't drink, so I'd likely fall short of breaking even by choosing non-alcoholic drinks.

For instance, if I use the Quick Service Dining Plan at Magic Kingdom, I might choose:

- Columbia Harbour House Lobster Roll — $18.99
- Columbia Harbour House Fountain Beverage — $4.79
- Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe Double Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger — $16.19
- Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe Fountain Beverage — $4.79
- Sleepy Hollow Mickey Waffle — $9.49

These total $54.25 before tax, falling $5 short of breaking even, even when selecting pricier options.

Of course, choosing alcoholic drinks could provide better value. Yet for me, I'd face restrictive dining choices to maximize the Dining Plan. So, I prefer to pay for meals out of pocket at Disney World.
