Let’s talk about something we absolutely love: cake. We love cake in all kinds of shapes, configurations, and flavors. We love cupcakes, and we love cake pops, cake bars, and we love cake slices.

CAKE!

Now, there are several places in Disney World where you can grab some really good cake slices, but there’s one bakery we keep going back to again and again because it has those kinds of cake slices that make you feel like you’re celebrating a special occasion even when you’re not. So yep, we’re back at The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers to try a new cake slice flavor.

Planning guide for the ultimate Disney vacation

The Cake Bake Shop is at Disney’s BoardWalk, and it has a reputation of being, well…pricey. Cake slices go for around $22-$23 here, and given that there are cheaper cake slices to be had in Disney World, it’s kinda’ controversial. But here’s the thing…we’ve never had a cake slice here that didn’t feel like something OTHER, and that’s what this bakery and restaurant does really well. It makes you feel like you’re having a special day, even if you’re not celebrating anything special.

So let’s talk about this new cake slice we tried. It’s the Inside Out German Chocolate Cake, and it has three layers of French Valrhona chocolate cake filled with silky Callebaut Belgian chocolate ganache and a brown sugar cream packed with sliced almonds, toasted pecans, and shredded coconut. Right off the bat, you know you’re getting high-quality ingredients. But it’s also a pretty big and heavy slice of cake, making it shareable, which also gives it more value.

The cake itself is fluffy and moist with a texture that makes your mouth sing. It’s not too rich, but it’s definitely a chocolate-lover’s dream. We could also eat that chocolate ganache with a spoon, no kidding. It’s almost like smooth fudge. Then you’ve got the filling that adds more texture and more flavors, but it’s all really well-balanced so that no one flavor overpowers the rest. And of course, the whole thing is covered in edible glitter to make it just that much more magical.

Take a bite!

Again, this is a place you want to go to when you’re feeling celebratory, even if you just want to celebrate that it’s Tuesday. If you’re going to pay $22 for a cake slice, we’ll tell you this…it’s worth it.

We’ll be reviewing more new snacks (and more cake) in Disney World, so stay tuned to Magical Guides for more reviews.
