Renowned actress Linda Lavin unexpectedly passed away at 87.
Lavin, famed for her lead role in the sitcom *Alice*, which earned her an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globes, died "unexpectedly due to complications from recently discovered lung cancer," as reported by a PR representative to *Deadline*.
Aside from *Alice*, Lavin had a notable stage career. Her Broadway debut in *It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman* led to acclaimed roles in *Little Murders* and *Last of the Red Hot Lovers*, earning her Drama Desk and Tony nominations. She won a Tony for *Broadway Bound* in 1987 and was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2010.
Lavin also thrived in TV and film, appearing on *Alice*, *Barney Miller*, and recently on CBS’s *Elsbeth* and Netflix’s *No Good Deed* this year.
At her passing, Lavin was working on *Mid-Century Modern*, a Hulu series with Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, and Nathan Lee Graham. The series had filmed 7 out of 10 episodes before the holiday break, leaving its continuation uncertain without her.
In response to her death, Hulu and 20th Television released a statement: "Our deepest condolences go to Linda Lavin’s family and loved ones. She was a legend in our industry, with her immense talent captivating audiences for over seven decades. She will be greatly missed by her *Mid-Century Modern* family as we mourn this significant loss together."
Many celebrities have shared tributes for Lavin on social media. *No Good Deed* creator Liz Feldman shared on Instagram: "Working with you was an honor. I loved writing for you on *9JKL*.
