Traveling around Orlando and getting to Disney World might become a lot easier soon, thanks to potential transportation improvements.
With numerous ways to reach Orlando by plane, train, and car, it's no surprise that the city is exploring more options. Aside from intriguing ideas like hovercraft transport to the Orlando International Airport, the latest focus is on expanding existing services to benefit residents and visitors alike.
If you've been to Orlando recently, you might have noticed the SunRail train, spanning multiple counties in Central Florida. Currently covering 61 miles and serving over 60 million passengers annually, SunRail plans to expand its reach to popular tourist spots like Disney World. Orange County is investing $500,000 in a $6 million feasibility study for a possible extension from the airport to theme parks.
While receiving unanimous support, the plan sparked a call from county commissioner Kelly Semrad for more financial input from benefiting businesses. This approach could ease taxpayer burdens and engage those standing to profit.
The study, overseen by the Florida Department of Transportation, explores ridership forecasts, costs, environmental impacts, and more for the proposed Sunshine Corridor. If fully funded, it's anticipated to take two years. Last year, a similar proposal had a potential $4 billion price tag, which may rise.
What do you think about this potential SunRail expansion to Disney World? Would it change how you travel to Orlando? Share your thoughts!
