We don’t claim to speak for Elmo, but we’d imagine he’s pretty upset about this latest news.

Universal Studios Japan has been working on creating new experiences for guests, and while that does sound like an exciting time, it means certain experiences and lands will have to close. Unfortunately, that’s the case with Sesame Street Fun World at Universal Japan. Here’s what you need to know.
Sesame Street Fun World at Universal Japan will end operations on Sunday, May 10th, 2026. Universal shared that this is “to pave the way for new and even more exciting experiences with the Sesame Street friends,” so it sounds like Sesame Street isn’t going away for good at this park!

Sesame Street Fun World opened on March 16th, 2012, and is part of the Universal Wonderland area, which is a family-friendly land. To express their gratitude for those who have loved Sesame Street Fun World over the years, Universal is hosting a special commemorative event that celebrates the memories and bonds formed in this area of the park.
Forever Friends — Always Together will take place from March 20th to May 10th!

Experiences with Sesame Street friends will continue throughout the park, including the “NO LIMIT! Parade – Discover U!!! Version,” “Sesame Street
4‑D Movie Magic” (currently suspended), “The Ultimate Blues Bash – Colors of Music,” and various character greetings.

As part of the Forever Friends — Always Together celebration, guests will receive a special card that allows them to take unique photos blending Sesame Street characters with real park scenery when held up in designated locations. The artwork will change throughout the event depending on when you visit, too. The first print will be available from March 20th until supplies last, and the second will be from April 15th to May 10th, but dates are subject to change. You can grab them at Universal Wonderland.

Not only that, but there will be a special “Everyone’s Treasure Board” where guests can share special memories and have them displayed. It will be located in front of Elmo’s Imagination Playland and Sesame’s Big Drive from April 11th to May 10th.

While we’re sad to see this area go, hopefully, it’s not the end of Sesame Street at Universal Japan altogether. We’re excited to see what these changes will bring!
