Good things come and go, but the closure of this popular theme park roller coaster wasn't something we anticipated for our 2025 bingo cards.

Universal Studios is known for making big changes, especially with the new year approaching. While Epic Universe opening on May 22nd is generating buzz, there are also significant behind-the-scenes developments. The latest? The possible farewell to a popular roller coaster.

On December 23, 2024, Universal filed a permit with the South Florida Water Management District for a project involving the demolition of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit in Universal Studios Park.

The permit outlines plans to “remove existing attraction and replace with proposed attraction,” with updates to landscaping and structures in the vicinity. The project will affect areas around the ride and some backstage spots, with mentions of new buildings.

Since its opening in August 2009, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has been a favorite, allowing riders to choose their own soundtrack while flying through the park's Production Central. Recent changes have already limited the song selection.

There's no word yet on what will replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, but Universal Studios Hollywood is currently constructing the new Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift roller coaster. This ride will feature a cutting-edge system that allows each vehicle to rotate 360 degrees, mimicking iconic cars from the film franchise.

Could this mean plans for a similar ride on the East Coast? While there's no confirmation, we suspect another coaster might be developed to fill this spot. For now, it’s certain that Rip Ride Rockit will soon be gone.

I rode this for the first time over the Summer. Not a bad ride at all. I guess some people black out? Not sure. It's nice it goes thru the entire park.

It's not as good as the Velocicoaster.
