The Walt Disney Company has revealed changes to its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) standards. A memo from chief human resources officer, Sonia Coleman, outlines upcoming modifications to the company’s DEI practices. Many companies are adjusting their DEI approaches, and Disney’s changes, reported by Axios, seem less drastic than those of other Fortune 500 firms recently. Starting this fiscal year, Disney is replacing the “Diversity and Inclusion” performance metric with “Talent Strategy,” emphasizing how values drive business results.

Additionally, Disney is rebranding and discontinuing its “Reimagine Tomorrow” campaign, which aimed to spotlight underrepresented communities but faced controversy since inception. The Business Employee Resource Groups will now be “Belonging Employee Resource Groups,” signifying a shift to strengthen community and workplace experience. Changes will also affect the language used in content advisories on Disney’s streaming services. Warnings about negative depictions in classic films like Peter Pan and Dumbo will move to the details section.

In recent updates, Disney tweaked wording for its Disability Access Service, removing “only” to broaden the description. Since resuming as Disney’s CEO in 2022, Bob Iger has attempted to reposition the company away from political agendas, aiming more towards pure entertainment. The ongoing transformations at Disney spark thoughtful conversation. What do you think of these changes? Do they mark a positive shift for Disney, or do they miss the mark? Share your thoughts!
