This might surprise you, but there is about to be MORE construction in Disney World.

Aloha, Polynesian Village Resort!

2026 is the year of growth around the Disney Resort! In the theme parks, they’re busy working away at new lands like the Walt Disney Studios, Pueblo Esperanza, Piston Peak, and more. Over at the hotels, there’s quite a bit of refurbishment going on, and Disney’s Polynesian Village is now putting on its hard hat to get in on the fun.

Starting very soon, more updates are coming to the Polynesian hotel! Starting on May 11th, the boat dock at the resort will begin routine maintenance. This means the dock will be closed and boat transportation is suspended during the work.

The boat dock

This is one of the resort’s most popular forms of transportation. It takes guests from the resort to the Magic Kingdom and to the Grand Floridian Resort. Luckily, it will still be pretty easy to get to both of these locations during the closure! To get to Magic Kingdom, resort guests can hop right on the monorail. There is also a walking path, although it might be a bit long for some guests.

To get to the Grand Floridian, you can either walk to the hotel (which is right next door) or you can also take a quick ride on the resort monorail. Luckily, the closure isn’t going to last for too long! Boat transportation will be suspended from May 11th until June 5th.

The boat can get some pretty long lines.

The dock refurbishment will last until sometime in late June. This is similar to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge boat dock refurbishment, which began on April 13th, 2026. This isn’t the only work going on at the Polynesian Resort, though. Earlier this month, we spotted that construction is going on at “some areas of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows.” Disney confirmed these areas will be refurbished through 2026. They also warned that guests may see and hear some daytime construction, starting at 9 AM.

Portions of the exterior of the Polynesian Village Resort will be undergoing maintenance, which means that your view from ‘Ohana may be impacted. (We’ve experienced this. It wasn’t a ton of fun). Specifically, they noted that views of Seven Seas Lagoon may be partially or fully obstructed during construction. This restaurant is often chosen by diners for its view of Magic Kingdom fireworks shows, so that blocked view is a bummer if it’s the reason you made your reservation.

This resort is super popular, even for guests who aren’t staying the night there! The food, bars, atmosphere, and more make this one a great place to spend time. We’re relieved to see that this boat dock refurbishment isn’t too long, so we can get back on the water in no time.
