Artificial Intelligence (AI) is dominating the news, whether it's Disney's legal battles or its theme park innovations, AI is an ongoing discussion. A fascinating development is the use of AI to "bring back" famous personalities who have passed, like Marvel legend Stan Lee.
You now have a chance to "meet" Stan Lee, sort of. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that an AI Stan Lee will interact with fans at the L.A. Comic Con. The hologram will pose for photos and engage in brief conversations at the convention's Stan Lee Experience section for a fee. The booth spans 1,500 feet and tickets range from $15 to $20.
The events also offer paid opportunities to have a quick chat or snap photos with the hologram. Although Lee died in 2018 at 95, he left behind a legacy as the co-creator of iconic characters like Spider-Man and Iron Man and appeared in many Marvel films.
Bob Sabouni, from Kartoon Studios and formerly of Marvel, assures fans that the hologram won’t misrepresent Lee. With abundant footage available, they can craft a voice that stays true to Lee's opinions and ideas, even if not verbatim.
The hologram might surprise attendees by popping up elsewhere at the con, which runs from September 26-28, 2025.
This idea raises mixed feelings. Bringing back someone in this way might be considered a tribute or controversial. What's your take on using AI to interact with legendary figures? Would you be excited or apprehensive about meeting a digital recreation of someone you admire? Share your thoughts!
