Yesterday was a sad day for Aerosmith fans, as well as for those who love Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and are sad to be without it for a few months while it undergoes its massive refurbishment.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is closed!
That’s right — yesterday was the FINAL day to ride Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in its original form; Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. Now, the ride undergoes a transformation to become Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, which is expected to open this summer. Now that the doors are closed, though, what does the beginning of construction look like?
We first grabbed a park map to see if the change had already been made, and sure enough, there it was! Now, near Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, it says “Future home of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.” It also clearly shows that the Villains: Unfairly Ever After attraction is still PAST Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, so people are aware that there’s another attraction back there.
The map has changed!
When we got to the attraction at around 9 AM, we noticed first that the word “Aerosmith” is GONE from the main entrance! We could also see that the gates were closed, so no one could get past. So, what does this mean for the Villains show? Do people need to take an alternate route? Fortunately, the answer is no — the gates will open around when the first Villains show begins for the day, which is at 10:30 AM. This means that, for the time being, people will be able to walk right past the closed ride!

We also were able to see the guitar from the gate, and it looks like the wording has ALREADY been taken off the guitar! We can see where it used to say “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith,” likely because it was on there for so long, so it left a lasting mark.
The guitar
Based on the concept art for the new attraction, it looks like the guitar itself will stay, but it’ll be painted to better match the color scheme of The Electric Mayhem’s iconic van. It’ll also get the new name for the attraction on it.

Last night, we saw TONS of people show up and show out to say goodbye to this iconic attraction. The biggest crowds were at both rope drop (around a 120-minute wait) and right after Fantasmic! let out for the night, and people rushed to get in line for the ride (around a 135-minute wait).
