Construction on Disney World’s next hotel is in full swing…but are there reasons to doubt whether or not it’ll be completed on time?

It’s been a hot minute since Disney World opened a new hotel, but that’s about to change with Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge. Nestled between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness, this new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) hotel will offer lake views, rustic elegance, and a whole new style of lodging at Disney World that already has us super giddy. But will it really open on time in 2027?
If you’ve been keeping up with our updates, you’ll know that Lakeshore Lodge is definitely happening. In recent aerial and ground-level photos, the resort’s massive footprint is incredibly visible, sitting atop the former River Country site.

We’ve already seen multiple towering cranes, active crews, significant permanent structure progress, wings of the resort and cabins speeding towards completion, pool and recreation areas being built, and plenty of positive signs that the resort is coming together nicely.

These aren’t just a couple of sticks in the ground — this is SERIOUS progress.

So will the resort actually open in 2027? It’s easy to be pessimistic. There are a handful of recent projects around Walt Disney World that have had “creative” timelines, such as TRON Lightcycle / Run, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and some refurbishments that weren’t available to guests longer than expected.
Disney projects — especially huge construction projects like Lakeshore Lodge — can drag on. It’s kinda like that friend who says they’ll meet you in 10 minutes and they haven’t even gotten dressed yet. Unfortunately, with Disney World projects, we’ve learned not to assume anything, really. You can only take the concrete evidence and run with it at this point.

With that said, the concrete evidence — AKA our own eyes seeing all these construction updates — indicates that Lakeshore Lodge is currently progressing forward at a great speed. The sheer amount of visible progress is hard to ignore, and with how much is already done, and a full year ahead, it’s not hard to believe that this hotel will be done by the end of 2027. Disney has over a year to finish a project it is already heavily invested in. So yeah, as of right now, there’s no reason to panic.

Of course, things can change. Weather, budget issues, and other problems can pop up at any time. We’ll be covering all of it, though, every step of the way — filling you in on all the latest changes.
