Normally, earning a Companion Pass isn’t easy. You must either accumulate a whopping 135,000 qualifying Rapid Rewards points in a calendar year or take 100 qualifying one-way flights which is a tall order for most travelers. But for a short time, Southwest has brought back a special promotion that dramatically lowers the barrier.

Here’s how the offer works: if you register for the promotion and then purchase and complete just one round-trip flight (or two one-way flights) by the promotional deadline, you’ll earn a Companion Pass valid for the fall travel season — with flying dates typically spanning several weeks later in the year. The catch? You must register and book soon! The deadline is coming up fast on February 5th — and the travel for that qualifying trip must be completed by March 31st to count toward earning the pass.
