Epic Universe at Universal is creating quite a buzz among theme park enthusiasts. Set to debut on May 22nd, 2025, select media and staff have already had an opportunity to explore this exciting new park.
The park boasts five distinct themed lands that breathe new life into beloved stories and characters. Visitors will step into immersive worlds like The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, Super Nintendo World, and Celestial Park. With its grand opening approaching, some are wondering how Disney World plans to respond.
Currently, Disney World features four theme parks and two water parks, while the addition of Epic Universe will bring Universal up to three theme parks and a water park. Disney's latest theme park addition, Animal Kingdom, dates back to 1998.
Although Disney plans to invest $60 billion into its parks and cruise lines, there hasn't been an announcement for a new park in Florida. They have, however, revealed several expansion projects like the Cars-themed area in Magic Kingdom and Encanto’s Pueblo Esperanza in Animal Kingdom, but will these expansions be enough to rival Universal's new additions?
Industry experts are skeptical. Dennis Speigel, from International Theme Park Services, mentioned the competitive "boxing match" between Disney and Universal and speculated Disney might announce a new theme park soon. Meanwhile, Alicia Stella from Orlando ParkStop highlighted the potential shift in visitors spending more days at Universal due to Epic Universe.
