We snagged an unexpected interview with one of our favorite chalk artists at EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts!
EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts is a must-visit for us each year. While indulging in food and drinks to uncover the best options for you, we also cherish other festival highlights like its captivating entertainment offerings. From animation classes to Disney Broadway performances, the blend of creative activities is irresistible. On this occasion, we encountered a chalk artist making adjustments to his piece after a rainfall and were lucky to have him answer some of our burning questions.
We’re big fans of Nate Baranowski's perspective-based chalk art. One of our reporters found his piece rained out at this year’s festival and was thrilled to watch Nate return to fix it. Nate generously shared insights into his creative process and approach to dealing with weather challenges. This piece, featuring MARVEL’s Hulk, became a festival hit as visitors lined up to capture their own photos with it.
We asked Nate if incidents like these affect him emotionally or are merely part of the process. He explained that letting go is essential in this art form, especially at this festival. On this occasion, an unexpected drizzle damaged his work since he hadn’t covered it, noting how minor puddles formed at his location, while nearby pieces remained intact. The vibrant colors, achieved through his technique involving washable paint, added both allure and vulnerability to rain.
Throughout our conversation, Nate demonstrated no sorrow. He emphasized that although completing a piece excites many, the festival’s true essence lies in “artistry in action,” which he loves being part of. For more Disney World updates and insights, stay tuned to Disney Food Blog!
