Disneyland, it's time for a chat about how you're treating the Haunted Mansion.
The Haunted Mansion is back in action!
Disneyland Resort is known for its ride overlays, enthusiastically embracing holidays with seasonal flair and sometimes, even when it's not a holiday, as with Hyperspace Mountain. But during Halloween and the holidays, overlays are in full swing at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. None are more beloved than the Haunted Mansion Holiday, featuring The Nightmare Before Christmas theme, a favorite among overlays.
Let's be clear, the Haunted Mansion Holiday is fantastic. Its elaborate overlays, complete with new audio-animatronics, justify its existence. I'm all for it and commend Disney for a brilliant job. However, as much as I enjoy Haunted Mansion Holiday, it's starting to overshadow the original attraction.

Recently, when the original Haunted Mansion theme returned (after about a year away), it was a joyous occasion! Halloween and Christmas may blend seamlessly into The Nightmare Before Christmas, but the original theme deserves more time to shine. For nearly 8 months, guests couldn't enjoy the classic Haunted Mansion.

Instead of reopening with the classic theming, the ride debuted with new additions, like a queue and gift shop, pushing back to the Haunted Mansion Holiday version. It feels like the balance between the original and holiday theming is skewed.
The original Haunted Mansion
For fairness, the main attraction needs more prominence. Maybe Disneyland will eventually consider entirely separate rides for each theme—a Nightmare Before Christmas ride for example.

Perhaps alternating the original and holiday versions each year could work, or even offering the overlay at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. But hey, just my two cents! Overuse of the overlay makes it less special and diminishes the value of an iconic ride like the original Haunted Mansion, which still captivates with its timeless charm.
Haunted Mansion Holiday again
I cling to the hope that the charming original version will always find a place in our hearts, alongside the awesome Haunted Mansion Holiday.
Meet the New Bride
Alright, rant complete! I'm curious—do you think Disneyland's current scheduling is fair? Should the Haunted Mansion Holiday receive a permanent theming or have its time limited? I'd love to hear what you think! Share your thoughts in the comments below and keep in touch for more Disney insights.
Which version of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion do you prefer? Let’s talk about it!
