California has declared a state of emergency due to significant fires in the Los Angeles area. Evacuation orders are active in several locations as the fires have destroyed homes, businesses, and schools. Officials predict more destruction will occur today, January 9th.

According to the New York Times, Los Angeles city councilwoman Traci Park stated, “This will be a devastating loss for all of Los Angeles.” Disney CEO Bob Iger has also shared his thoughts on the situation.

CEO Bob Iger posted on Instagram sharing the destruction he saw in the Pacific Palisades on Wednesday. His post included a video and photos showing heavily damaged and destroyed buildings.

Iger mentioned, "I drove through Pacific Palisades today witnessing the devastation. My heart goes out to those who lost homes and businesses, including thousands of Disney employees affected."

Although Disneyland Resort is in Anaheim, about 47 miles from Pacific Palisades, many Disney Imagineers reside in the Verdugo Mountains area. Former Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde shared on Instagram how many Imagineer homes have burned in Altadena, expressing the personal impact these fires have on the community.

Disneyland Resort remains open, but Universal Studios Hollywood is closed. We are monitoring the situation for updates. California Governor Gavin Newsom urged residents to stay alert and be ready to evacuate if necessary via a message on X, formerly Twitter.

We will keep updating as new information comes in.
