Big changes are coming, and they’re arriving fast.
We all saw it coming, but now it’s official. On July 7th, three significant Magic Kingdom attractions will shut down for good: The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat.
What’s Closing and When
You'll have until July 6th for one last raft trip to Tom Sawyer Island or a final ride on the Liberty Belle Riverboat. Starting July 7th, the entire Rivers of America area will close.
Disney plans to replace these classics with a new Cars-themed area. It's a bittersweet moment—an end to some old favorites but an exciting start for new adventures.
The Shift Between Liberty Square and Frontierland
Although construction won't start immediately, the area will feel uncannily quiet without the usual activity. The transformation to a Cars-themed land is set to bring vibrant new experiences, but this means saying goodbye to some beloved, nostalgic features.
What’s Replacing It?
Expect two new Cars attractions to take the stage. One is a high-speed race through mountain terrain, reminiscent of Radiator Springs with a unique Magic Kingdom twist. The vibe promises to be energetic and eye-catching.
Water elements will be part of the new theme, so it won’t all turn into pavement and traffic cones.
A Moment to Remember
The Rivers of America and its attractions have been integral to Magic Kingdom since it opened. Despite the inevitable changes, these experiences have been cherished classics for over 50 years, offering a more laid-back presence in the park.
Don’t Miss Your Last Chance
Before they bid farewell, take the chance to traverse Tom Sawyer Island one last time or enjoy a final loop on the riverboat. With distinct views and boundless possibilities for exploration, these spots are gems in Disney World’s lineup.
So…What’s Next?
Magic Kingdom will feel a bit different without these components, but for those excited about new attractions and themes—this is an exciting development! If the new land mirrors the success of Cars Land in Disneyland, it’s poised to be a compelling feature of the park.
