Harry Potter is undoubtedly a beloved and world-renowned franchise — and fans are in for a treat with more of it on the horizon!

Fans never tire of Harry Potter! We’ve got the books, eight thrilling movies, fantastic attractions at Universal Orlando and Islands of Adventure, plus an upcoming Wizarding World at Universal’s Epic Universe. And now, a brand-new Harry Potter series is underway, complete with an exciting cast announcement!

HBO’s much-anticipated Harry Potter series has fans buzzing. While some are thrilled, others feel anxious about what’s ahead. Given the loyal fanbase, this mix of excitement and concern is understandable. Let’s dive into the six actors confirmed so far, and you decide whether HBO is on track.

Starting with our beloved Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore will be portrayed by John Lithgow, known for his roles in The Crown and Conclave. Janet McTeer takes on Professor McGonagall, while Paapa Essiedu steps into the shoes of Professor Snape. Favorite giant Hagrid will come to life through Nick Frost, with Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse tackling Quirinus Quirrell and Argus Filch, respectively.

“We are thrilled to welcome John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon, and Paul Whitehouse as Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell, and Filch,” stated Francesca Gardiner, the showrunner and executive producer, alongside director and executive producer Mark Mylod, as reported by Variety. They express their excitement about this extraordinary ensemble breathing fresh life into these iconic characters.

As these are the first confirmed actors for HBO's series, more casting news should follow soon, especially since filming is set to start in the summer. We eagerly anticipate the announcements about who will embody Harry, Ron, and Hermione, with over 30,000 submissions for these roles! HBO promises a “faithful adaptation,” delving into every part of the wizarding realm, bringing Harry's adventures to new and returning audiences.

Undoubtedly, no one can replace Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry, Emma Watson’s Hermione, or Rupert Grint’s Ron, but we're excited to see where this fresh take leads. Stay tuned for more updates, and make sure to subscribe to the Disney Food Blog newsletter for the latest news!
