It's been quite a chaotic year for TV shows, with numerous cancellations of what many believed to be guaranteed hits.
A lot of TV shows are facing significant changes.
As streaming has become the primary method of viewing, metrics have shifted; shows must gain traction quickly or risk cancellation, consequently leading to some shows wrapping up their final seasons in 2025. However, there are also exciting announcements about reboots, sequels, and spin-offs slated for the upcoming year. Let's explore what 2025 has on the horizon for these shows.
**Reboots, Sequels, and Spin-Offs**
**Malcolm in the Middle**
Nostalgia remains strong, with some shows making unexpected returns. We were surprised to hear about a new *Malcolm in the Middle* series. This isn’t exactly a reboot but rather a sequel, featuring original stars Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek in four new episodes.
The show’s description states: “Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are pulled into family chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) summon him for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”
**The Office**
Another unexpected announcement was that *The Office* would be making a return. While most are familiar with the U.S. version starring Steve Carell, this new series will be a spin-off set in a fresh office space, produced for Peacock.
The synopsis reveals: “The documentary crew that captured Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch seeks a new subject when they find a declining historic newspaper and its publisher attempting revival with volunteer reporters.” The lead cast will include Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore.
**King of the Hill**
After a 14-year hiatus, *King of the Hill* is making a comeback. Original voice actors Mike Judge (Hank), Kathy Najimy (Peggy), and Pamela Adlon (Bobby) are set to reprise their roles in the revival anticipated for early 2025 on Hulu.
Although voice actor Johnny Hardwick (Dale) passed away earlier this year, he completed several episodes beforehand.
**Daredevil**
Many thought the Netflix Marvel series had been shelved permanently. However, Disney+ is reintroducing characters, including Daredevil, who will star in a new series, *Daredevil: Born Again*, premiering March 4th on Disney+.
This series will serve as a sequel to the original Netflix version and may pave the way for the return of other Netflix Marvel characters.
**Canceled Shows**
**The Conners**
ABC has announced that *The Conners* will receive one final season, its seventh. This concluding season will be shorter, featuring fewer than ten episodes. The show, a spin-off of the *Roseanne* revival, has been ABC's highest-rated comedy for much of its run.
The final season is expected to air in 2025.
**9-1-1: Lone Star**
*9-1-1: Lone Star* will conclude with its fifth season on Fox, consisting of 12 episodes. The first episode premiered in September, with the series finale slated for early 2025. Originally on ABC, the show shifted to Fox.
**Blood of Zeus**
Netflix’s animated series *Blood of Zeus* has been canceled, though a third and final season will air in 2025. The series showcases an epic conflict among gods, mortals, and demons, blending mythology with anime.
Creators Vlas and Charley Parlapanides expressed excitement for Season Three, which continues the adventures of Heron, Seraphim, and the gods as they confront formidable foes.
In addition to these cancellations, several shows, like *The Handmaid’s Tale* on Hulu, *Squid Game* on Netflix, and *Stranger Things* on Netflix, will end in 2025.
