It's a gloomy day, folks. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is now officially CLOSED for an extensive refurbishment in Magic Kingdom.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

We spent the ride’s last day monitoring crowds and wait times, and with the closure confirmed, we're back in the park to check for changes at the Wildest Ride in the Wilderness. While there aren’t many details on the refurbishment yet, we're excited to see Disney’s plans!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed for extensive refurbishment, slightly dimming Frontierland's appeal. While no major construction walls are up yet, a subtle one blocks the entrance, preventing access to the queue.

Additional construction walls confirm it's closed for now.

More construction walls

Disney filed a Notice of Commencement on January 3rd, 2025, for general construction by Coast Steel Inc. from Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Closed for now

Interestingly, the expiration date on this notice is March 13th, 2026, indicating closure might last until spring 2026.

Whee!

Disney hasn't officially stated what the refurbishment includes or reopening plans. Meanwhile, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure takes over as Frontierland's main attraction. Stay tuned for Magic Kingdom updates on the Disney Food Blog!
