Planning for a Disney World visit? Make sure you're up to speed on potential ride closures and refurbishments to avoid any surprises when you arrive. Imagine heading to your favorite attraction, only to find it temporarily closed! This week, Disney World has announced two significant closures, along with updates on other attractions.
Blizzard Beach is closed for a brief refurbishment, while Typhoon Lagoon has reopened as of May 1st. Notably, both water parks will be open concurrently from May 21st to September 7th, 2025. Additionally, Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano in Hollywood Studios is closing permanently on May 11th, 2025, to pave the way for a Monsters, Inc. themed area.
In the Magic Kingdom, the indoor playground at Dumbo the Flying Elephant is shuttered until Spring 2025. Meanwhile, the Hall of Presidents is closed for updates, likely related to the presidential transition earlier this year. The Astos Orbiter has also been dismantled, with reopening projected for summer 2025, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is undergoing a lengthy refurbishment until 2026.
At EPCOT, Test Track is closed until late summer 2025 for a transformation drawing from the original World of Motion ride, while Restaurant Marrakesh remains closed with no reopening date announced yet.
At Animal Kingdom, "It's Tough to Be a Bug" has closed to make way for a new "Zootopia: Better Zoogether!" show, debuting in winter 2025. Similarly, several attractions in DinoLand USA are closing, making room for a new land themed to the Tropical Americas.
Over in Disney's Hollywood Studios, Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy is making way for a new Villains show opening on May 27th, 2025. Voyage of the Little Mermaid is also set to be replaced by "The Little Mermaid—A Musical Adventure," debuting the same day.
Some shops in Disney Springs and various Disney hotels are also undergoing refurbishments, including Jellyrolls at Disney’s BoardWalk, which has officially closed but hints at reopening elsewhere.
