Even with meticulous planning, vacations can sometimes take an unexpected turn. More than 100 people on a Holland America cruise ship experienced this unpredictability firsthand when their journey was disrupted by an outbreak of norovirus.

The ship set sail from Port Everglades, Florida, only to encounter the contagious virus, affecting 107 passengers and 12 crew members on the MS Rotterdam, according to information from Fox 13. Holland America is doing its best to manage the situation by enhancing cleaning procedures and isolating those infected.

Cruise ships have battled norovirus before, and this isn't the first time for this vessel, as it faced similar issues back in December. The challenge of controlling norovirus lies in the ship's close quarters and shared facilities, and cases have been rising on ships lately.

The CDC advises that one effective way to protect yourself from norovirus onboard is by washing your hands frequently with soap and water, as hand sanitizers aren't as effective.

It's important to stay informed about these outbreaks, especially if you're planning a cruise soon. Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments! Have you ever faced a travel mishap? We'd love to hear your stories.
